We spent last Saturday (June 30) in the Children's Hospital ER. After 8 hours of waiting in a very small ER room, Haylee was admitted into the hospital. It all started late Thursday night when she started running a fever. The next morning I took her to the doctor and they took a urine sample. They prescribed an antibiotic called Cephalexin. She had her first dose Friday evening and by the morning had small bumps on her face, arms, legs, stomach.... basically everywhere. We were especially concerned about the bumps near her mouth and eyes. The fact that she was chewing on her tongue confirmed our suspicion that she was having an allergic reaction to the medicine. We called the doctor and were told to take her to the ER immediately. The ER wasn't crowded - so Haylee got seen quickly. They took another urine sample and gave Haylee some Tylenol. Her reaction went down during the 8 HOURS. When the urine sample confirmed that she had an infection - possibly a kidney infection - they gave her another drug - Meropenum. She had an allergic reaction to this one too! Because they were concerned about the infection and her reaction to medication, they checked us into the hospital. During the course of her stay, Haylee also reacted to: Ciprofloxin, Carbapenem & Cephalosporin! CRAZINESS! Finally, she didn't react to amoxicillin - so they released her Monday night. The hardest part about our stay was trying to contain Haylee. She was basically her normal happy, hyper self. We took lots of walks around the 2nd floor of the hospital, spent time in the wonderful playroom area and tried to stay out of the nurses way. Haylee loved her fuzzy yellow socks and hospital gown - both of which came home with us.
